The Killie Trust Donates £2,000 To Community Groups

For the second year, The Killie Trust launched an initiative to donate £2,000 to local charities and community groups.

Following the initial launch last where 14 groups in Kilmarnock and the surrounding area were helped by the Trust, an appeal was made again this year for applications for grants.

The Trust understands the importance of supporting invaluable work carried out in the community and also how difficult it can be for organisations to raise money for their cause, particularly at the moment in the current economic crisis.

Barry Richmond, Chairman of The Killie Trust, said: "We had a great response to the bursary scheme last year and managed to help many local groups and this year we were inundated again. We asked local businessman, John Gall of Brownings the Bakers to take on the unenviable task of reading all applications and allocating grants to the groups he felt required the money the most. John decided to allocate grants in 3 categories to try and aid as many groups as possible, £50, £100 and £150. All in, that allowed us to donate money to 22 organisations."

Anyone, from local football teams to youth and volunteer groups, in the Kilmarnock area were welcome to apply for funds and successful applicants this year include Kilwinning Community Sports Club, 5th Kilmarnock Girls Brigade, Kingswell Boys Club, Momentum Scotland, Puddleducks Nursary School and Ayrshire Samaritans.

Kate Short from Break the Silence, an organisation supporting survivors of childhood sexual abuse said: "The Killie Trust's kind donation which will help support the running costs and volunteer expenses of our new open access project. This is a valuable new resource in our development programme which will give clients the opportunity to access the service outwith appointment times. Since moving to our exciting new premises we are able to extend the services we offer to our clients and this money will help support this latest project."

Patrick Lennon of Galston Boys Club 2001 said "The money donated will go towards our training kits and training equipment to help the players improve their skills and feel part of a team. Our aim is for every player to enjoy playing football and training, new kits and better equipment will go a long way to achieving this."

Lorna Miller of Howard Rainbows and Kilmarnock Brownies who were both donated money this year thinks that "Both units will benefit from the bursary money which we plan to use to purchase some games and physical play equipment for the girls. The girls and leaders are delighted to be receiving money from the Killie Trust bursary and can't wait to get and try out our new equipment."
