» Fifty For The Future |
|
19th December 2011 |
At the recent Killie Trust AGM, the members present were informed that contributions to FFTF have declined for the past three years and that there has seen a significant drop since the end of season 2010-2011. In the early years of FFTF, the majority of the donation made to Kilmarnock FC for youth development came from FFTF donations and fundraising, and a smaller proportion was provided from Killie Trust funds. This situation has reversed with the majority of the monies given to KFC being funded by the Killie Trust. With the severe downturn in FFTF donations, this is no longer sustainable and would result in a significantly reduced contribution this year.
The Killie Trust has for some months been working on a business plan for a Youth Academy. The Killie Trust believes that an academy, set up as an independent charitable organisation, will have access to funding not currently available to the Club, will attract local business sponsorship and benefit from the generosity and support of the fan base. Similar Youth Academies have been successfully set up for other clubs including Dundee United, St Mirren, Stenhousemuir and Ayr United among others. Kilmarnock Football Club, and in particular Manager Kenny Shiels have indicated that the future for Kilmarnock is to develop youths to provide first team players and transfer income to sustain the Club financially. The Killie Trust fully supports this view and sees collaboration with the Club as vital to the success of this initiative. The Killie Trust intimated its interest in this area at a meeting with the KFC Chairman and Management Committee in the autumn and were encouraged to put forward a proposal. This proposal is nearing completion of its initial draft and the Trust intends to meet again with KFC to review and improve the plan.
The view of the members attending the AGM was supportive of the Trust pursuing the objective of a Youth Academy rather than to re-launch FFTF. This will take time and The Trust asks that all donors to FFTF continue their contributions, and encourages those members who have ceased to contribute to consider resuming their donations. All donations will be used for youth development.
