» Summary of Trust Survey |
|
17th March 2010 |
The trust carried out a survey at the end of last season to find out what the fans thought about the trust and the club. The survey was distributed at the last two home games by trust board directors and volunteers. It was also available on the trust website. In total 336 fans returned surveys.
WHO RESPONDED?
Summary:
As would be expected the majority of fans came from East Ayrshire, with the highest percentage coming from Kilmarnock. The majority of respondents were male which is a fair reflection of the fanbase. It is more difficult to say whether the age range is a similar reflection of the fanbase as the group was self-selecting. It seems that all fans groups have some work to do with 77% saying they were not members of any fans groups.
The Respondents came from the following areas:
East Ayrshire – 51%
North Ayrshire – 17%
South Ayrshire – 8%
Elsewhere – 24%
Gender:
Male – 88%
Female – 12%
Age range:
Under 18 – 5%
19 – 24 – 14%
25 - 59 – 75%
Over 60 – 6%
Fan group membership:
None – 77%
Trust – 13%
Kilmarnock Supporters Association – 7%
Young Killie – 2%
Disabled – 1%
ABOUT THE TRUST
Summary:
Over the previous year the trust organised various fundraisers; organised a match for fans versus the club’s old crocks; donated money to the club via the Fifty for the Future campaign and donated funds to 14 community organisations through the community bursary scheme. 71% said that they had heard about these achievements while 69% said that they would either renew their membership or join.
Fifty for the future is the trust’s campaign to raise funds for youth development. It was started in response to the club’s need to save money and one of the ways identified was to cut back spending on youth development. On average a minimum of £20,000 a year has been raised since it started. Only 25% of those responding currently donate to this campaign.
The trust has eight objectives which are:
- to strengthen the bonds between the Club and the community which it serves and to represent the interests of the community in the running of the Club;
- to benefit present and future members of the community served by the Club by promoting encouraging and furthering the game of football as a recreational facility, sporting activity and focus for community involvement;
- to further the development of the game of football nationally and internationally and the upholding of its rules;
- to encourage the Club to take proper account of the interests of its supporters and of the community it serves in its decisions;
- to encourage and promote the principle of supporter representation on the board of any company owning or controlling the Club and ultimately to be the vehicle for democratic elections to the board;
- to promote, develop and respect the rights of members of the community served by the Club and people dealing with the Society as set out in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, having regard in particular to the need to provide information to members and conduct the affairs of the Society in accessible and appropriate ways;
- to encourage Society members who are Club shareholders to assign their proxy vote to the Society;
- to promote and support Youth Development within the district of Ayrshire, for the future benefit of Kilmarnock Football Club;
When asked what would encourage them to join the trust 32% said concerns about how the trust was run which shows that they understand the aims of the trust. On the other hand 19% said concerns about the team’s performance would encourage them to join which is outwith our remit.
When asked about the trust’s priorities for the coming season 21% thought that we should offer new ideas to the club and 20% thought we should have a bigger say in the running of the club. The most important thing the trust could do was increase its profile (31%).
92% felt that the trust had clear aims while 86% thought the trust were heading in the right direction.
79% felt that we communicated well with our members. This number is lower than we would have liked but feel that this situation will be rectified now that the new database is up and running.

We will look at how we advertise these events to ensure that as many fans as possible are able to attend. 63% felt that the trust should always receive shares in return for any money given to the club. This is something the trust is trying to achieve as increasing our shareholding will give us a stronger voice.

Some comments about the trust:
Below is a summary of some of the comments we received
- Absolutely the right direction. Unity of the fans is the problem however, better communication necessary. Figure head important but difficult to find.
- Brilliant initiative. Works down south why shouldn't it here?
- Brilliant.
- Can't comment as already stated I don't know anything about it. The Football Club supports the community better than the community or TOWN of Kilmarnock supports it.
- Doing a good job, need to put it across to chairman that there must be investors out there and that he should be doing more to make the club attractive to businessmen in the community.
- Don't know enough about it.
- From my understanding, think the likes of Baz do a good job. Raising funds for the club and offering volunteers are two ways I know in which the trust help out.
- Good idea.
- Had not heard about events.
- Improved communication is needed in local press regarding upcoming events.
- Keep up the good work, sack the board.
- Need to increase profile, advert in the hippo? Local bursary is fantastic - could players hand over donations / be part of the award process.
- Sportsman dinner!
- Think is a good organisation with clear aims and feel the club should be more willing to accept the help and ideas that the trust offer / put forward.
- Very useful initiative. Should do more fundraising for both young team and club.
- Events are too grandiose to attract the people who should be the backbone of the Trust. Keep the smaller events ticking over throughout the year to generate publicity and a once a year Grand Event.
- Good aims and well run.
- I agree with what the trust are trying to achieve and think they are moving in the right direction
- I think the trust is the organisation I would like to see carry the agenda for improvement of KFC forward.
- I'd like to see more marketing about what they do - not just on killiefc.com.
- Increase the board number.
- No renewal date!! Need more events to reach a good money target and more membership. Matchday events, monthly events in park hotel, great nights. Arrange to increase the season ticket by £10 and donate this to the trust, easy!
- The trust is good way to make money for club.
