» Chesterfield Football Supporters' Society
1st August 2003
CFSS In March 2001, a meeting of 22 Chesterfield fans discussing the idea of a true Community Club decided in favour of the formation of a Supporters' Trust to safeguard the future of the financially insecure Chesterfield Football Club.

The group contacted Supporters' Direct and were advised that an Industrial & Provident Society should be formed.  On 5th April 2001 the constitution was confirmed and "Chesterfield Football Supporters' Society" (CFSS) was officially formed.

Sixteen People were co-opted onto the committee and it was decided that CFSS would be launched to the public on 25th April 2001.  Over 1000 supporters attended the launch, around 500 of which signed up on the night, raising £6240.

Just two days after the launch of CFSS, the Club's owner approached the Society to discuss the Future of Chesterfield FC.  A further three days later a deal was signed whereby CFSS took control of the holding company which included Chesterfield FC plc, for £6240, the amount raised on the night of the CFSS launch.

It took just 39 days after the initial meeting of 22 fans for Chesterfield's Trust to ensure its club's future was in the hands of the community.  We cannot assume that The Killie Trust will have as big an impact in as small a time scale but this is another example of how a Supporters' Trust can benefit your team.  See the CFSS website for further information.
